The game world is skillfully rendered in 3D, although gameplay remains steadfastly rooted in a 2D plane.

In this thrilling adventure, players embark on a quest to thwart the nefarious plans of Doctor Eggman, who has cunningly enlisted Fang the Hunter to capture the colossal creatures residing on the North Star Islands. His motive? To assemble an unstoppable army. Players can choose from four distinctive characters, each possessing their own unique abilities: Sonic the Hedgehog, who can execute a speedy dash after a jump; Miles “Tails” Prower, capable of taking flight; Knuckles the Echidna, a master of gliding and climbing; and Amy Rose, armed with a formidable hammer and the ability to execute a double jump.
