Like a Dragon Gaiden Story
The game’s story unfolds between the events of ‘Yakuza 6: The Song of Life’ (2016), ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ (2020), and ‘Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’ (2024). In this installment, our attention shifts back to the original series protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. However, he’s not exactly in his usual element. Kiryu takes on a new role, operating undercover as a secret agent in the vibrant settings of Osaka and Yokohama.

In ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name,’ players step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu as they venture through the vibrant districts of Sotenbori in Osaka and Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama. A third location, known as ‘the Castle,’ serves as a central hub where players can engage in various side activities. These include beloved minigames like karaoke, Pocket Circuit racing, cabaret club management, and thrilling arena battles. Adding to the intrigue, a new character named Akame takes on the role of an informant, offering Kiryu intriguing sub-missions.
Kiryu boasts access to two distinct fighting styles: the Yakuza style, known for its aggressive brawler combat reminiscent of Kiryu’s classic approach in earlier games, and the Agent style, characterized by its emphasis on “absolute speed and precision” and reliance on high-tech gadgets.
Much like ‘Lost Judgment,’ ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden’ treats players to a collection of classic Master System games that Kiryu can indulge in. This nostalgic selection includes titles such as ‘Alex Kidd in Miracle World,’ ‘Alien Syndrome,’ ‘Enduro Racer,’ ‘Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa,’ ‘Galaxy Force,’ ‘Global Defense,’ ‘Maze Hunter 3-D,’ ‘Quartet,’ and ‘Secret Command.’ Additionally, gamers can enjoy the SG-1000 version of ‘Flicky.'"
