The Sequel We’ve Been Waiting For
It’s been a patient nine months since Supergiant Games unveiled Heads 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2020 game of the year, Heads. Now, the developer has finally broken its silence, providing eager fans with a crucial update: Heads 2 is set to launch in Early Access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store during the second quarter of 2024, falling somewhere between the months of April and June.
Quality Takes Time
In a candid blog post, the developers addressed a common question on the minds of many fans: Why not launch Early Access immediately? Supergiant Games' response was clear – Heads 2 aims to offer an experience at least as rich in content from day one as the original game did when it initially entered Early Access on Steam. While Early Access inherently implies that the game is a work in progress, Supergiant is committed to ensuring that Hades II is worth players' time from the moment they can get their hands on it.
Technical Tests and Player Feedback
In addition to the release announcement, Supergiant shared its plans to conduct technical tests with a select group of players shortly before the Early Access launch, drawing on the lessons learned from the development of Hades during its Early Access phase in 2020. This approach will help refine Hades 2 by incorporating player feedback, delivering core content, and enhancing gameplay.
The Road to v1.0
Supergiant Games acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the timeline to reach version 1.0 of Hades 2. Their current focus is squarely on building the essential elements: environments, characters, weapons, boons, story events, music, and more. As they embark on technical testing and Early Access in the upcoming second quarter, the team is dedicated to delivering a game that’s ready for players to immerse themselves in.
Melino’s Journey
Hades 2 takes players on an exciting journey with Melino, the princess of the underworld and Zagreus’s sister, the protagonist of Hades. Her quest? To save her father from the clutches of Kronos, the Titan of Time. Along the way, Melino will seek the assistance of her patron, Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, and forge alliances with various Olympian gods and heroes.
As we eagerly await the Early Access release of Heads 2, it’s clear that Supergiant Games is dedicated to crafting a sequel that lives up to its predecessor’s legacy, offering fans an epic adventure and immersive gameplay experience.
