In Persona 5 Tactica, players control a party of up to three characters on a grid-based map, navigating a world populated by enemy units. Engaging these adversaries leads to turn-based encounters, wherein players must make strategic decisions to secure victory. The player’s party includes core members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts and the Rebel Corps' formidable leader, Erina.
During navigation on the grid, players can approach enemies directly for close-quarters physical attacks or utilize the Command menu to select actions. The “Gun” option allows ally units to employ ranged weapons for physical damage, potentially targeting multiple enemies in the vicinity. True to the Persona series, the Phantom Thieves can summon their Personas during battles, enabling the use of various skills at the cost of Skill Points (SP). These skills encompass magic-based attacks, each associated with different elemental affinities. Players must strategically exploit enemy weaknesses, granting them an extra turn known as “1 More” to choose their next action or repeat their previous attack.
When multiple enemy units weaken, and the player’s party forms a triangular formation on the grid, a special Skill called “Triple Threat” becomes available. This powerful move resembles the “All-Out Attack” featured in Persona 5 and other Megami Tensei games, dealing significant damage that may eliminate all targeted enemies on the map.
Beyond battles, players can collect additional Personas for Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves. Joker possesses the coveted “Wild Card” ability to utilize multiple Personas. These Personas can be acquired through negotiations and recruitment during battle or by fusing multiple Personas, whether equipped to Joker or accessible via the Persona Compendium.
